Welcome to Y2 Treasure Island!
If you can dream it, you can do it!

Welcome to Year 2! Our class name is the Treasure Island that appears in the story by Robert Stevenson. We love to read stories, especially ones that lead us into magical and wonderful places! We also love to find out about how things have changed over time and this half term we are learning all about how hospitals have changed. We will be learning about the people who help us and writing a non-chronological report about them in literacy. Then we will be going right back to 1853 when the Crimean War started. We will be learning all about the Scutari Hospital that Florence Nightingale was called to.In literacy we will be describing what it was like from Florence's point of view. We will be then learning about how Florence changed the future of nursing and hospitals and the things she put in place, including hygiene. As this is very important now, we will be learning about why hygiene was important then and now. As part of that, we will be writing instructions of how to wash your hands and learning about cleaning your teeth. In science, we wil be learning about the lifecycle of a frog and how offspring develop into adults. In addition we will be learning about healthy eating and how to stay healthy.

We will be learning about maps and how to use them, as well as comparing aerial views of Antarctica and other places. We will be exploring how climate change is affecting Antarctica including how animals' habitats are changing. This learning will also help us in our science as we explore habitats and how animals survive. We will be learning all about food chains and the different groups of animals. In art we will be learning about different shading techniques and how we can apply these to a drawing of a teddy bear. In our RE lessons, we will be exploring the stories that Jesus told and how they can teach us to be kind to others. We have an exciting half term planned and we hope everyone enjoys all their learning.
