Welcome to Year 2! Your class teacher this year is Miss Whitehead, along with our wonderful class teaching assistants Mrs McClure and Miss McDaid. Our class name for this school year is ‘Paddington Station’. This story setting is inspired by the one of our year 2 recommended reads books called ‘Paddington’ written by Michael Bond. All of us believe that books are the key to unlocking our imaginations and therefore we will explore a wide range of books over the next school term.
We will enjoy various texts to provide us with a purpose for writing in Literacy. This will include ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’, ‘Wolves' and ‘The Journey Home’. n reading lessons, we will be focussing on enhancing our fluency skills by reading a range of extracts and exploring the vocabulary within them. We are very excited to begin the year reading 'There's a Rang-Tan In My Bedroom' before moving on to non-fiction texts such as 'The Magic and Mystery Of Trees'.
In maths we will be cover many chapters over the term which include, comparing numbers, place value, number patterns, as well as adding and subtracting.
We will continue to master addition and subtraction which involve renaming and the multiplication and division facts for the 3 times table. We will revisit our knowledge of number bonds to 10 and extend this onto number bonds to 20. We will cover the 1 and 2 times tables which include the division facts. We will cover a wide range of topic areas in our wider curriculum learning including, Science, PSHE, DT, ICT, RE, Geography, History and Art. We will create our own moving vehicles in DT and develop our sketching skills based around self portraits.
